About
Beef for the Bank is a non-profit organization that works to fight food insecurity in our community and state. My sisters and I started Beef for the Bank during COVID-19 in 2020 to address the lack of protein at our Lomega Food Bank. The shelves were filled with canned and processed foods, but protein was expensive and difficult to come by.
With the help of family and our FFA advisor, we formulated a plan. We purchase cattle from local farmers, feed out the steers, and then sell the beef in halves or by the pound. We use the proceeds to fund the donation of ground beef to feeding programs.
We began having local farmers offer to donate cattle. We feed these out, have the beef processed, and make the donation.
A 501c3 non-profit organization and a registered non-profit through the Oklahoma Secretary of State
This means that we don't make any money off of this. If Beef for the Bank makes a profit, it goes right back into the company to pay the bills for next year. When you donate, you will get a tax credit form emailed to you.
An approved producer for the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry Local Food Purchase Assistance Program for participating food banks and schools
This means that we are certified and able to donate and sell beef. Also, schools want to buy their beef from a safe and reliable source, so that is why we sought out and got certified for the Food and Forestry Local Food Purchase Assistance Program.
USDA inspected beef for distribution to feeding programs
In order to donate beef to food banks, we had to be USDA-inspected. So we did just that because we want to be able to end hunger.
Passionate about ending hunger in Oklahoma
1 in 6 Oklahomans struggle with hunger, and 1 in 4 Oklahoma children are at risk of going to bed hungry each night. Beef for the Bank is on a mission to end hunger in Oklahoma by donating beef to food programs.
